Pursuit of Happiness

I really enjoy this play. It portrays many different types of conflicts and how to learn from a mistake. Whether it's person vs. person or person vs. self, the characters still managed to overcome them. This play talks about a poor African-American family living on the South Side of Chicago. They escape poverty from a ten thousand dollars of life insurance check because of Mama's husband's death. They each have many dreams about the ten grand that they got. Walter, the oldest son, wants to invest the money in a liquor store. Beneatha, the younger sister, a college student, wants to use the money for medical school. Mama wants to buy a house for the family and finance Beneatha's medical school as for her plan. They all live in a tiny one-bedroom apartment and two families share a single bathroom. Since Walter is the oldest and Mama trusted him about putting the money in the back, she gave half and half for him and Beneatha. Instead, he spent all of it on investing a liquor store. Walter's plan backfired and the person he trusted with the money ran of with it, leaving him empty handed. His wife and sister was upset with him. Walter is a very selfish man. Even though he was trying to help his family, he disobeyed his mother and wasn't thinking about how it would affect Beneatha's future. Later on in the play, Walter finally "grew up" from being immature into a grown man. He became the man of the house and carried on the family.

Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta Compton is a movie that tells us the story about this rap group called the N.W.A., which stands for Niggas With Attitude. They started it out with little to no money until their album hit with Jerry Heller, their manager. Jerry was the one who signed the group up. In their black communities, there was lot of violence and racism. Many black would get checked and cuff by the police to see if they have any drugs on them. Racism did not stop their rap career and it went really well until Ice Cube found out that Jerry only did it for Easy-E, which the company N.W.A. was for Easy-E when it's suppose to be for all of them.  In the movie, Ice Cube stated, "Why are we eating burgers while E and Jerry be eating steak and lobster?" That was when he realize that Jerry was doing their rap career only for Easy-E, which he doesn't care about them except Easy-E. Their rap music took the big hit, which is "America's most dangerous group." They made millions of dollars, but because of money blinding the eyes of Easy-E, he forgot about his "brothers." Ice Cube decided to quit from their group and started on his own rap career. After that Dre quit and started his own too. Later on, Eazy-E was scammed by Jerry, which he fired him. E asked for Dre and Ice Cube to come back and recreate their music, N.W.A. They finally got back together, but turned out Easy-E couldn't continue because they found out that he had been diagnosed with HIV by the end of the movie. Easy-E died due to his suffer of Aids. After all, N.W.A. really did changed rap music back then until now. Their music still influence a lot of people now today.

Fight for What's Right

At first I thought this movie isn't that enjoyable for me because I don't really watch or like to watch history movie, but it's something that made me think different. This movie makes me feel how strong they are as in a group and how hard they are trying to fight for their rights. Most of history movie have really meaningful theme or idea behind the scene. This film, Selma, got me entertained. It was not just interesting but very courageous for one to stand up for one another. It talks about how M.L.K and his group protest for their right to vote in Alabama. Back then, Blacks were not able to vote, which is unfair for them. That is why they wanted to protest for voting right. Everyone should be able to do the same even if they're different skin color. An example of courageous was when the police was hitting on the little boy and his mom tried to stop him from hitting her son. She got jumped by many other officer, but no one fight back, which was a very effective way for protesting.  They risk their life for what they wanted.  They fought throughout the protest without any violence just like Gandhi's non-violence protest. After one another was hurt, they did not give up on trying to fight for what is right and fair for everybody because everyone is born equally. This should be more of a must do if there were any protest in America because people don't get hurt. For example, if they were to protest in a way where they throw stuff at others, they would get hurt. Also by using this non-violence protest makes the people who they're protesting against, feel guilty if they ever hurt the protester who never fought back. It's a very good way to show people that you a strong person because you are doing the right thing and idea without any violence. This film can change one's mind about why everyone is equal.

Stevie the Missing Dog

October 17, 2016. Famous college mascot, “Stevie Pointer”, mysteriously disappeared. The students of University of Wisconsin Stevens Point were at a loss. It was up to three men to solve the case of who kidnapped Stevie Pointer. Through the dark hallways and up greuling stairs they pushed on, never knowing what the next corner may reveal. The first clue left was a shark, “Just hanging around.” This then lead them to the most current newspaper written by the students of UWSP. The kidnapper was close, he was fast, and he kept the three student detectives on their toes. After visiting the two bottom stories the hunt was about to get intense. Climbing stair by stair the students made their way to the top...of the 3rd floor. Putting their mind power together they made the group decision to take the elevator. Navigating through the upper floors of the library was going to be a task for the three men. Rows on rows of books covered the floor space. Everything from agriculture to zoology popped out at them. The three men worked harder, and harder and finally found all of the hidden letters left behind by the kidnapper. They still were not done. As they were going back down, one of individuals stated that in order to find Stevie, they had to unscramble the words. On the fourth floor the three men sat down. With one of their weakness being letters to unscramble the words they pulled out the mighty cell phone letting the device unscramble the letters to reveal they needed to be in the world famous Archives. Walking around for quite some time they discovered something that was hiding in plain sight. The sign telling them where the room actually was. Walking into the room they were shocked when they found Stevie all tied up and ready to freed. Stevie was safe as so was the campus yet again. The students at UWSP can now again, rest easily.

Social Issues Between Male and Female

In this blog, I will be telling my personal response of the essays of "Throws Like a Girl," by James Fallows. In this essay the issue explains that female are being compared to male in many negative ways. For example, the phrase "Throws Like a Girl," seemed to be an offensive phrase to females because it basically means that they aren't good enough for what they're doing. According to the essay, it stated that they weren't being taught the proper way like how the male are being taught. In my opinion I think everyone has to be trained in order to be good in a particular subject or sport. Not everyone is born with a perfect ability to do activities. Stated by James Fallows, there has been research that shown that female and male's throw are no different. Overall, I disagree with this social issue that society look down onward a women's athletic skills.

What do you think of when you hear your favorite song playing on the radio? For me, I think about what it means to me and how it affected me. Each and everyone has their own favorite songs, but these are my top five favorite songs. These songs are important to me because each song has a little background story to it. For example, the song "How To Say Goodbye," this song means a lot to me because it takes me back to when I had to say goodbye to all my friends and families in Thailand. Leaving my home town behind was a difficult thing to do, but soon it will become a memory. When people listen to my playlist they will learn that I like slow emotional songs and meaningful songs. The thing that they wouldn't be able to learn about me is that I do listen to rap and RnB songs too. Based on my playlist, they will assume that I am an emotional and serious person, which I'm not. I like emotional songs doesn't determine that I am sad. I like emotional songs because it help calms the mood down.

I think my playlist indicates that I like to look towards my future and experience life as a slow song and enjoy my life as it is. When I think of something larger, I think of life that is  a gift to a person and that they should enjoy it to the fullest.
